Nqaba Bhanga, MPL Changing the names of the province and Port Elizabeth must be the last thing on Premier Mabuyane’s priority list. After years of public debates on name changes, the naming committee recommended that Port Elizabeth be renamed Gqebera, the airport be named after Khoi and San chief David Stuurman and Uitenhage be renamed Kariega. Uitenhage’s Rosedale township will be renamed Kamesh if the committee’s  recommendation is approved. It is not a matter of if Port Elizabeth will receive a name change but rather a matter of when.Gqebera, is the new name recommended for the windy city by the Eastern Cape Geographical Names Committee.
