Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for the Ghost Town of Independence, fields of wildflowers and the occasional moose, elk or deer. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your Independence Pass. The starting point for directions can be a city or town, an intersection or a specific street address. Independence lake is probably the best part of this hike, but the trail on the other side down to Lost Man trailhead is very beautiful and serene. Soon the trail crosses back to the west side of the creek and plots a course slightly above the valley floor, skirting the marshy areas along the creek. City: Leadville.
